Product Details

This Kood R72 Infra-Red filter will only allow light above 720nm to enter the camera.  The R72 filter is very dark, letting only a small amount of visible light through; holding it up to a bright light, you can see a faint deep-red image.

This filter will allow you to take some very interesting pictures because some objects absorb infra-red light and some reflect it (like tree leaves etc).  See the image below which was taken using a D70 camera and Kood infra-red filter.

The method we use:

1. Compose and focus the image without the Infra-Red filter fitted.
2. Set the camera to manual focus and screw the filter onto the lens.
3. Take the picture with the camera set to colour and use the RAW file format as this will allow for better B&W conversion (don't use the B&W in camera mode).
4. Using your photo editing software of choice, convert the image to black and white and change the levels like contrast etc to get the desired effect.

You should see things like a clear sky being very dark whilst leaves on certain trees and plants being bright - almost white.

These can be used with film cameras using Infra-Red Film or digital cameras.  Most digital SLR cameras have an infra-red blocking filter fitted so you should expect long shutter times of 5 seconds or more, even on a bright sunny day.

Just type Infra-Red photography into a search engine and you will find a mass of information about the subject.

This filter is double threaded so another filter, adapter or hood can be mounted onto it.

These filters are suitable for film and digital cameras.

Specification:

Features: Double Threaded
Material: Glass

Top Tip - If you are unsure of the size you require, most lens caps will have the filter thread size stamped on the back of them. The lens will also have an indication somewhere, usually denoted by a diameter symbol ø with a number after it which indicates the filter thread size.
